Weekly Penguin

Weekly Penguin 995

As a 90s kid, of course I had a Tamagotchi. And of course it was a penguin. Mine was called Pocket Penguin Model B-8.

Though I do still have the manual, neither it or the penguin itself has markings of the manufacturer, so I can't help with that. I do know, however, that it is a variant of an established Dinkie's Yuki Penguin. It is not the original version and may be a knock-off. However, apart from the shell form factor, it is identical to "Yuki".

I'm sure everyone knows virtual pets by this point; its a simple simulation of a pet that lets the owner know of its needs by beeps and you maintain those needs via the LCD interface.

The Pocket Penguin works similarly. You start with an egg and we go through one of three evolution paths – two good ones result in two different kinds of penguins whilst the third (bad option) results in a mutant. What path you end up on depends on your care.

One themed feature in the penguin pet is the temperature tracking; naturally penguins prefer it cool and you need to maintain it. And no, it doesn't have a thermometer, its also simulated, so you don't have to live in a freezer. Unless you want immersion, of course.

Currently my Pocket Penguin sadly seems defunct. I will attempt a full, in-depth clean-up and see if I can bring this 90s wonder back to life once more. This would be a fun dood to have on the desk whilst doing the TAGAP thing.
