I admit, this is just a stop cap entry between my most epic penguin art to date and something equally awesome just around the corner. Still, I'm fairly sure you all knew this was coming, right? Yep, Oswald 'The Penguin' Cobblepot returns once again, this time as portrayed in the brand new Batman: Arkham Origins. And he is pretty much how you'd expect, that is, if you've played Batman: Arkham City. This Cobblepot is slightly younger, hasn't built his burning hatred towards Batman yet, nor does he have the broken glass bottle shoved into his eye. But hey, he is still mean as hell and voiced brilliantly by Nolan North.
Not yet transcended to the status of super-villain, The Penguin of Arkham Origins works mainly as a weapons merchant for the underworld. While he isn't as evil in this prequel, I still find him one of the most intriguing takes on the character and I really wouldn't mind him taking the main villain spotlight in the future.
So the Penguin is great but what about the rest of the game? It's pretty good. The audience seems to be divided on this but I don't see anything wrong with the game. Sure, it's only telling a new story with a framework identical to the previous title in the series, but I have no issues with that; I loved the mechanics and I wanted to see more of this variant of Gotham, so it's a win-win. I'd say if you're a fan of the previous games it's definitely worth a spin, via a Steam sale at the latest. Just don't expect anything new or revolutionary, but something very familiar and only a little evolutionary.
