This week we go back to the world of penguin-themed alcohol drinks. This one is Penguin Eiswein 2009, from Louis Guntrum in Germany, aptly decorated with Adelie Penguin imagery. As with the previous penguin drink, Tactical Nuclear Penguin, this one was, too, spotted by Timo Liimatta. The bottle was uncorked in our small TAGAP 5th anniversary party last year.
I'm no alcohol expert, but ice wine is, if I understood things right, produced from grapes that are frozen while still attached to the vine. This means the ice wines are A) more concentrated and sweet and B) not-so-common, given there aren't that many wine yards in the world where the weather allows this to happen.
Also, as a funny note; since 'penguin' is 'pingviini' in Finnish – and wine is 'viini' – this has been coined as 'Ping Viini' here at Penguin DT HQ.
