Here's a collection of hand-made Artwork-series stickers I bought from the local post office around New Year. This set generated quite a bit of laughter by promoting itself as 'acid free'. I know, it's a regular notice and there's nothing really funny about that alone, but there's more to it.
Back in the mid 90s there was a lot of concern about then-brand-new phenomenon of LSD spliced into stickers and how some kids had gotten themselves into a hospital by mistaking them for, you know, regular stickers. Every such news story was backed up with the same 'archival footage' reel of LSD stickers police had confiscated – and on top of the pile was a set of absolutely adorable penguin stickers! From there on out, 'penguin stickers' had kind of a special meaning.
So, just you know, this particular set is 'acid free'. And as far as I know, so are all the previous sets we've featured.
