Weekly Penguin

Weekly Penguin 221

Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, aka "Penguin", has had several spotlights on Weekly Penguin arena already (in movie, retro and comic form), but his latest incarnation comes in form of games in the brand new Batman: Arkham Asylum. I've been playing it a lot lately – in addition to working behind the scenes on some top secret stuff – and boy it's good. If you haven't, pick it up when you get the chance.

Arkham City's version of Penguin is, without a doubt, the meanest and most evil of them all. Based on the comics you'd think that you can't portray the character as nothing but at least slightly comedic, right? Heck, even though Tim Burton's version went all Biblical trying to snuff out all the firstborn babies of Gotham, he still felt like a comedic comic villain.

But not so in Arkham City; this penguin is the most evil human being on the planet, triumphing over even the Joker in this regard. At first I feared that how I, a penguin fan-boy, would want to punch out Mr. Cobblepot, but after witnessing the deeds of this British mobster version of the character it became easy. I still find it hard to destroy his penguin statuettes in hunt for achievements, though.

On final note; Penguin is voiced by the brilliant Nolan North of Uncharted fame. I've heard many people complain that he can only play these likable everyman characters in vein of Nathan Drake, but after this I doubt there will be anyone left questioning Mr. North voiceover talents. He shines, even when paired against Kevin Conroy's Batman and Mark Hamill's the Joker – and that's no small feat.
